A record number of eftpos transactions on Christmas Eve 2009 support our findings that the majority of you like to leave Christmas shopping to the wire!

Welcome to 2010! While many of you are still enjoying your summer holidays the team at Retailworld are back hard at work this week, posting retail job ads online, screening cv’s and interviewing candidates who are looking start the New Year with a fabulous new retail job!

We have also drawn the winners of our Christmas Photo competition, which was run on our Facebook fan page – congratulations to Martin Bremner and Ebrahim Kheriwala who will each be receiving a $100 Westfield Gift Voucher!

The competition that asked entrants to tag themselves in the photo that best represented their Christmas shopping habits revealed that 36% of entrants left their Christmas shopping to a last minute rush. 34% of entrants were planned and methodical shoppers, 18% were waiting until the Boxing Day sales to buy gifts and 12% did their Christmas shopping online.

Eftpos figures from Christmas 2009 suggest many New Zealanders left gift buying until the last minute with a record 4.2 million transactions recorded on Christmas Eve. On the same day shoppers spent $226 million in electronic transactions, $10m more than last year.
