4th September 2010: 7.1 earthquake hits Christchurch
In the early hours of Saturday morning an earthquake measuring a magnitude of 7.1 hit Christchurch and surrounding towns. The damage shown has been in varying degrees - with some buildings completely demolished. It’s too early to know the exact cost of the damage that has been caused but it is estimated to be in the billions. The city has since felt numerous after shocks up to 5.1.
